About Dr. Mom | Dr. Stephanie Liu

Dr. Stephanie Liu is a Canadian Family Physician, medical educator, and the founder of By Dr Mom Skincare.
Through her work in community family medicine, Dr. Liu repeatedly saw a gap in the skincare market. Many of her patients were uncomfortable using topical steroids long-term for itchy, inflamed, or eczema-prone skin. At the same time, they were turning to “natural” products that were not scientifically validated and often worsened skin irritation.

Driven by the need for solutions that were both naturally derived and evidence-based, Dr. Liu set out to bridge this gap. Working alongside a team of physicians and researchers, she developed By Dr Mom Skincare using beta-glucan—a fiber found in oats and barley that has been shown in multiple studies to support skin barrier repair, improve hydration, and enhance skin healing. The result is a physician-developed skincare line designed to be gentle, effective, and grounded in science for sensitive skin across all ages.

Dr. Liu completed her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences at the University of Calgary, followed by a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition at Columbia University. She completed her medical degree and Family Medicine residency at the University of Alberta. She currently practices community family medicine with a special interest in pediatrics and women’s health and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta, where she is involved in medical education and teaching.

In November 2018, Dr. Liu launched Life of Dr Mom (@lifeofdrmom), a parenting and health education platform where she shares her experiences as a physician and mother while providing evidence-based information on child and maternal health. Her goal has always been to empower families with credible, science-backed medical information so they can make informed decisions for themselves and their loved ones. Life of Dr Mom has been featured in CBC, Global News, National Post, Yahoo, and Daily Mail.
Outside of medicine and entrepreneurship, Dr. Liu enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, Dr. Graeme Mulholland, an ENT surgeon, and their children, Madi and George.
